Expert Dealer Spotlight: EMotion Shade

Meet Nicolas Cugier and Jean-Philippe Cugier with EMotion Shade, which has been serving the San Diego area in California for 5 years. The Cugiers are originally from France, where Somfy was founded, and Jean-Philippe worked with Somfy there for more than 20 years before coming to southern California.

“The main company objective was to make motorization accessible,” says Nicolas. “More than 75% of the shades, curtains and blinds we install are motorized by Somfy.”

Nicolas explains that the company is known for slick products and installations that work with any budget and any interior design. They worked with Marynn Udvarhelyi from Wildflower Home, a design and DIY blog, to install motorized curtains in her home.

“Marynn was very curious about the project,” said Nicolas. “She supplied the fabric so we had to work closely together to make sure everything was just right.”

Nicolas shared a tip for those installing draperies. “We always recommend leaving the curtain folded for one to two weeks after the installation,” he says, “that allows the fabric to generate a good memory of how it should flow while being closed or opened.”

“The guys at E-Motion Shade were incredible,” said Marynn. “They took our old curtain rod down, patched holes, carefully installed the new rod, and even re-trained the curtains so they would open and close properly. The whole process was smooth, and it was honestly a pleasure having them in my home.”

Nicolas loved that Marynn shared lots of videos of the curtains on Instagram afterwards – seeing the final product in motion is a wonderful treat for installers (and for us here at Somfy!). And Marynn loves not climbing on her couch to close her curtains twice a day.
