Hard to Reach Windows Become More Accessible with Motorized Shades

Blogger Elise Armitage of What the Fab transformed her home with motorized shades.

Motorized shades - hard to reach windows

San Francisco native and lifestyle blogger, Elise Armitage, recently upgraded to Somfy motorized window shades, and she’s calling them a “total gamechanger.”

The What the Fab writer raved about her shades while showing them off to her followers on Instagram and TikTok. After seeing the beautiful big windows throughout her master bedroom and master bath, we can understand how her new motorized shades have had such an impact!

Elise worked with Designers Resource to customize her new motorized roller shades. She appreciated their in-home consultation where she could learn about her options and see samples in her space. Elise was especially grateful that she could choose different color and fabric options within the same design model. While it was important to install blackout shades in the bedroom and bathroom, Elise has a high window on her landing that was better suited to a light filtering shade.

Opening and closing window shades may seem like a simple manual task, but it’s not always so easy. For the high window on Elise’s landing, she had to deal with an extra-long cord that disrupted her home décor. The bathroom window hovers over the large soaking tub, which requires climbing into the tub just to raise or lower the shade. Elise admitted that she simply left it closed most of the time, making the bathroom a bit darker than she liked.

With motorization in place, Elise says, “Now that I’m able to easily control this shade in our bathroom by remote or the app on my phone, we’re able to have this window open during the day to let in beautiful, natural light.”

Elise demonstrated the sleek Somfy remote to her social media fans, highlighting how it can be programmed to control all the blinds at once, as well as one at a time. But what she’s loving the most is that she can set her motorized roller shades to a schedule. She thoroughly enjoys waking up naturally to fresh sunlight each morning a few minutes before her alarm gets her all the way out of bed. Her bathroom shade is set to coordinate with her evening routine for effortless privacy.

Designers Resource, a Somfy Expert dealer, handled the installation quickly and professionally. A slight adjustment was needed to work with Elise’s home Wi-Fi settings so that she could connect to her TaHoma® device using the Somfy North America app. Her expert installer used Somfy’s massive library of professional programming and installation resources to quickly solve the issue and get Elise fully connected. While she is really happy controlling her motorized shades with the Somfy remote and the app on her phone, making the transition to smart home connectivity will be a breeze. All of the components are already in place!

Somfy TaHoma integrates with many smart home automation systems to allow for voice control and coordinated device operation. Users can also attach Somfy sun sensors to automatically control interior motorized shades with the sun’s position for optimal energy savings. We have to agree with Elise – upgrading to motorized window shades by Somfy truly is a “gamechanger.”

Whether you want to wake up more naturally, increase privacy, manage out of reach windows, or simply add effortless automation to your day, Somfy motorized shades are the ideal upgrade.
