Jill Zarin Adds Motorized Shades to her NYC Home

One of the original cast members of Real Housewives of New York, Jill Zarin, recently worked with Somfy and Glamour Decorating to add motorized shades to her New York City home.

Zarin had a challenge that may sound familiar to New Yorkers and other big-city homeowners – no air-conditioning in the building until April 15! That means that on sunny spring days, her living area, which has 11 windows, would warm up to pretty extreme temperatures with no relief!

“I have suffered terribly in this apartment with the heat!” said Zarin. “Since the building doesn’t put on the air conditioning until April 15, the only solution was to put up blinds – but the blinds the place came with were ugly!”

Zarin teamed up with Glamour Decorating and Somfy to put in new light-filtering roller shades to cut the heat down in the living room.

“Somfy is by far the quietest motor,” said Zarin, who has friends with motorized shades that she says are much louder. “You can’t hear anything!”

Zarin also raved about the valance that Glamour installed to match the shades and hide the roller mechanism. “My friends don’t have that – I told them they have to get it,” she laughs.

She also appreciates the quiet motor in her bedroom, where she opted for blackout shades.

“If I want to open the shades and enjoy the view and Gary is sleeping, it’s so quiet it won’t even wake him.”
