03-11-2021 Inspiration & Ideas by Morgan GLENNON Large Dining Room Windows Get a Smart Shade Update Interior designer and real estate professional Krystine Edwards loved her floor-to-ceiling windows, but she loves them even more now with convenient motorized shades. Natural light is important to Krystine Edwards. That’s why the interior designer, real estate professional, and blogger wanted to ensure she had some dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows in her home. Natural light pours into the dining room of the 1960’s brick home that Krystine and her husband had recently renovated, via a wall of large windows. The downside? All of that light can really heat up the space. It also turned out that closing shades on floor-to-ceiling windows were a big challenge. With a two-year-old at home, Krystine really wanted to avoid corded window treatments. Especially knowing that window cords have been called one of the top 5 hidden dangers in homes by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The solution was motorized shades, powered by Somfy. These shades fit seamlessly into her dining room and kitchen design, while adding a touch of smarts to the equation. Krystine worked with J Geiger Shades to find black blinds that worked perfectly with the décor in her space. The new motorized shades also filter light, so working at the dining room table or having a family meal doesn’t have to mean roasting in the sun. Krystine and her family are now more comfortable in the dining room, and the automated shades also help to reduce energy bills from heating and cooling costs. “This has changed the entire dynamic of our space and has made it so much more enjoyable, energy-efficient, smarter and has made it stand out,” Krystine wrote on her blog. As part of the family’s 10-month renovation of their home, they were also constantly looking to make their home smarter and more energy-efficient. Krystine was looking to create a true smart home feel with smart lighting, smart locks, smart thermostats, and more smart shades. Her shades are not just energy-efficient, they’re also convenient. With a simple voice command, Krystine can raise or lower her shades through integration with Amazon Alexa. Talk about a smart home! See more of her smart dining room in this video: “I’m so glad we took our time and did our research in finding the perfect motorized shade solution to create a smart home. It was one of the best and most invaluable decisions we could have made!” Krystine said. TEST Click here to read the full blog post on Krystine Edward’s blog!
