More Than Just a Trend: How Somfy is Taking Concrete Steps Toward a Greener Future

With Earth Day quickly approaching and an influx of green messaging looming, Somfy would like to share with you our sustainable development initiatives and related plans for the future.

In Somfy’s Annual Financial Report for 2021, the French parent group of Somfy Systems lays out its commitment to the European Green Taxonomy and Sustainable Development. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, Somfy recognizes that housing is among the top contributors to CO2 emissions worldwide and is therefore working to reduce the company’s carbon footprint as well as that of consumers using Somfy products in their homes.

Somfy’s Sustainable Development policy, “We Act For a Better Way,” is based on three axes: Planet, People and Prosperity. The first pillar of this policy, a Better Way to Care, Planet, ensures that the Group’s activity limits and reduces the negative effects of operational processes on the environment. From this pillar was born “Act for Green”, a way for Somfy to provide consumers with a way to support sustainable options with their purchasing habits. With Act for Green, you don’t have to choose between comfort and commitment to the environment. Act for Green’s eco-designed products have a reduced impact throughout their entire lifecycle, from the extraction of raw materials to manufacturing, shipping, usage, and even end-of-life destruction.

The Act for Green logo guarantees 5 things:

1. Minimum environmental impact for the product, as measured and controlled by an independent body.

2. Low consumption in sleep mode (particularly for motors) and extended battery life.

3. Compliance with environmental and health regulations for the raw materials and substances used (verified by an independent body).

4. Packaging free from polystyrene and PVC, replaced with recycled and recyclable fibers.

5. Easy disassembly for recycling and repairs, where necessary.

One of the most recent additions to the Act for Green product line is the Tilt 50 WireFree™ Through-Shaft RTS motor. Among the products' most notable features is that it utilizes a standby consumption mode which operates below 0.2W and has been tested by an external laboratory and is compliant with REACH and RoHS regulations.

The Tilt 50 WireFree™ Through-Shaft RTS motor is used in traditional motorized installations for horizontal blinds, and it can also be found in the Clever™ Tilt Blind Motorization Kit, a user friendly, do-it-yourself motorization upgrade that works with your existing horizontal blinds. The kits are available with either a 12V DC Reloadable battery tube or a rechargeable battery pack.

With the goal of achieving 100% eco-designed products sold by 2030, we look forward to working together with you, to act for a better way. To learn more about Somfy’s commitment to sustainable development and the Tilt 50 WireFree™ Through-Shaft RTS motor, visit the links below.
