Motorized Draperies Help a Miami Condo Enjoy the View

Privacy, energy savings, convenience and comfort are some of the top reasons homeowners decide to install motorized window coverings. Our client fell in love with this luxury three-bedroom penthouse apartment in Miami Beach for its large floor-to-ceiling windows and the amazing view of the beach. After moving in however, they soon realized the large open view had a downside. During the day, the sun would beam in intensely causing issues such as heating up the apartment, exposing the floors, furniture and artwork to UV rays, and lastly, all that natural light made it impossible for our client to have a good night’s sleep.

After one meeting at this home, our team knew right away that motorized window treatments were the way to go. Motorized window treatments would add style, function, safety and convenience to every room and would allow for easy operation on multiple window treatments at a time, especially for the living room in which the windows stretched from wall to wall.     

The Process

In the living room, for glare, light, and UV control, we installed sheer ceiling to floor length Ripplefold® curtains. These curtains were installed on a motorized Somfy Glydea® ceiling Ripplefold® tracks.

In each of the three bedrooms we installed the same sheer fabric and added a blackout blocking lining to block out light for better sleep. These were hung on a Motorized Somfy Glydea® track for easy operation.

A Somfy Telis remote is used to control each window treatment. These curtains can also be controlled via smartphone through the Somfy myLink™ app.

The Results

It’s amazing to see how motorized window treatments can positively change the atmosphere of an entire space. Our client can now enjoy their luxury home with no setbacks. After installation, our clients can enjoy a moment in front of their television or computer without glare interfering with their experience. They can enjoy their view through the sheers if they want without letting in too much light.

With the new shading in the bedrooms, privacy is no longer an issue, and neither is sleep as light can be completely blocked out at night and the harsh sun no longer creeps up in the early morning to interrupt a deep sleep.

Since our client is very tech savvy, the new window treatments have also added more convenience to their life. They not only get to control their windows from anywhere in the house without having to manually adjust each one individually, they can also preset their favorite settings and control them through their smartphone, even when they aren’t at home!

As a bonus, ever since the installation, our client has noticed lower energy bills since they no longer use large amounts of energy to cool down their home.
