Saving Time Around the House with The Makerista

Discover how home decor blogger The Makerista cuts down on her daily chore list with motorized shades.

Home decor blogger and “Jane of all trades” Gwen of The Makerista was looking for a way to upgrade her space and downgrade her to-do list. With a busy schedule and 48 windows in her home, she found herself leaving her window coverings in one position for days at a time.

In the summer, she’d miss out on natural light because her curtains would be pulled closed to conserve energy. In the winter, the window coverings would be open for days at a time to bring in light, which meant giving up privacy and living in a “fishbowl” environment.

Just as important for a blogger who likes bold, deep hues in her furnishings, constant exposure to UV rays can wear down even the most dramatic dark blue or leopard print chair. While the natural light was what attracted Gwen to her home in the first place, the west-facing windows in her living room came with some challenges.

Enter motorized shades! Getting motorized shades for the dramatic windows in her living room space was a game-changer for Gwen. Now with one push of a button, she can raise all the shades on her way to make breakfast or lower the shades for privacy. She was excited to be able to control all of her shades together on the first channel of her remote or control each shade individually.

Best of all, creating a smart home for herself didn’t come at the price of her personal style. Since Somfy works with a wide variety of fabricators, Gwen was able to choose the perfect fabric for the shades in her living room that blend seamlessly into her decor.

Now, this home decor blogger and thrift store aficionado can check one thing off her to-do list quickly with just the press of a button. One less chore means more time in her day to focus on the creative work she loves.

“In the morning I can tap the button on my way to the kitchen.  No more standing there thinking about how much time this adds up to doing it every day.”
