Somfy Network Spotlight on Glamour Decorating

Somfy shines the spotlight on businesses in our network stepping up, giving back, and innovating in an uncertain time.

Somfy is excited to take some time to shine the spotlight on our incredible group of dealers, fabricators and partners. One of those dealers is Glamour Decorating, located in Brooklyn, New York. Glamour Decorating is a family-owned business dating back 30 years. This company has hustle, whether it’s selling gorgeous motorized window coverings or looking for new ways to connect with its clients.

Discovering a new way forward became important when COVID-19 hit the New York area hard. Glamour Decorating quickly pivoted its business model, offering clients virtual appointments with their dedicated team. This allowed the company to continue offering clients the same high -level of service and support, even during a time when it wasn’t always possible to be with clients in person.

Quick thinking and embracing new tools were just some of the reasons Somfy wanted to spotlight Glamour Decorating. Below we chat with the team from Glamour about how they adapted their business to the new normal, tips they have for other companies, and why motorization is always an important part of their business.

What are you doing right now to adapt your business?

During the novel coronavirus we have become a lot more flexible in the way we do business. We have implemented virtual consultations through FaceTime, Zoom, Microsoft Teams & other platforms. We have mailed samples as well as tape measures, laser measures and have instructed our clients on how to measure shades. We’ve even walked our clients through installations and programming!

For our clients that still let us enter their home, of course we always wear PPE such as masks, gloves, booties, and even Tyvek suits when necessary. Our goal is to make sure that our clients always feel as comfortable as possible.

What made you decide to adapt your business during COVID-19?

Businesses that do not adapt do not survive. Our business is family-owned and operated for 30 years and we always believe in innovation & adaptation.

What was the process like to implement virtual consultations?

A lot easier than anticipated. We have been able to utilize all the available platforms to ensure that our clients receive the best service possible and that they are still able to purchase Somfy motorized window treatments.

What lessons can you share that you’ve learned adapting to the new normal?

Keep an open mind! Make sure that your clients feel as comfortable and as confident as possible with their purchase.

Tell us a bit of background on your company. How did you get started?

We are a family-owned business that started in 1990. We first began doing slip covers and upholstery, and then we transitioned into window treatments. We manufacture all our shades by hand locally in Brooklyn. Our values and craftsmanship have always been old world. We pride ourselves on giving our clients the best products and service possible.

What do you like about motorized products and working with Somfy?

Motorized window treatments are the ultimate in refinement and luxury! We love providing our clients with motorized shades, blinds, and draperies and seeing how amazed they are the first time they operate their window treatments.

The Somfy brand has helped us grow our business tremendously. Our installers have attended several Somfy trainings, where Somfy technicians have taught them everything they need to complete a successful installation in the field. The Somfy support system is second to none, and we greatly admire their commitment to their dealers.
We have also enjoyed lots of success being a member of the Somfy Expert Dealer Program. Somfy has provided us with warm leads who are excited about the products and ready to make a purchase! My family and I are extremely grateful for the opportunity!

Can you tell us about one of your favorite motorized installations?

It’s very hard to name our favorite installation! We have been fortunate to have several challenging and rewarding installations. If we had to pick one, it would be a trio of architectural shades installed in a Shohei Shigematsu NYC building.
