sparkling clean life

When Ty, a home cleaning expert, blogger, and creator of A Sparkling Clean LIFE, made the decision to upgrade her Manhattan apartment windows with Somfy motorized shades, getting her cleaning routine in place was a top priority.

“I’m head over heels in love with these shades and want to make sure that I keep them clean so they last a long time,” Ty wrote when she gushed about her home’s new look

Ty worked with Glamour Decorating, a Somfy Expert and custom shade manufacturer to get the perfect shades to fit her style and space. She prioritized an easy-to-clean material to go along with the modern convenience of motorized shades. By working with a Somfy Expert dealer, Ty got access to experienced designers who offered a motorized shades solution customized to her specific needs.

For A Sparkling Clean LIFE readers who are happy with their existing blinds, Ty recommends the Somfy Clever Tilt Blind Motorization Kit. This DIY solution makes blind motorization possible for existing blinds in just a few steps!

Since she is known for her passion for cleaning, it’s to be expected that Ty is happy to share some great tips for keeping blinds and shades clean. Not only does a regular cleaning routine ensure that blinds and shades will continue looking their best, but it also supports their functionality and lifespan.

According to Ty, “The most important thing to remember is to upkeep with cleaning your blinds.” A monthly routine is recommended for preventing dust and dirt buildup. With regular cleaning, your blinds or shades will keep filtering natural light as perfectly as the day they were expertly installed.

Of course, cleaning routines should be based on lifestyle and environment. Blinds and shades may need more frequent cleaning if they tend to attract more dirt. In homes where there are pets, a lot of stovetop cooking, or nearby construction, users may find that blinds and shades should be cleaned more often.

The best news is that cleaning blinds, when done regularly, is a pretty quick chore!

Ty recommends:

  • Gently vacuuming fabric vertical blinds, roman shades, and cellular shades with the brush attachment and dabbing small stains with a damp cloth.
  • Wiping plastic or aluminum blinds with a dry cloth or with soap and water for heavier buildup.
  • Dusting wood blinds with a dry feather duster or soft cloth. She reminds readers not to use water or chemicals on wood blinds, as it may damage, warp, or discolor the product.

Now that Ty has her blinds and shades cleaning routine down to a science, she’s loving the ease of controlling her natural light flow with the touch of a button or simple voice commands. Somfy motorized solutions are compatible with most smart home management apps and programs so that managing incoming light is as simple as it is luxurious. Somfy products can be controlled by remote, app, voice command, or as part of a timed schedule or preferred scene.
