Somfy Motor Cabling Change Helps with UL Listing

Learn more about how Somfy motors meet or exceed the UL 325 standard.

Somfy knows it’s important to meet all UL 325 standards for our products, which is why all Somfy products are UL recognized. Recently, we’ve updated our motor cables on our 500 and 600 series motors to improve consistency and customer experience. Our recent cabling change represents an adjustment to ensure Somfy solutions meet or exceed UL 325 standards.

Now, Somfy 500 and 600 series motors will be equipped with an SJTW cable at 10 ft as a standard. SJTW stands for Service Junior Thermoplastic with Weather Resistant Jacket and is a type of cable approved and rated for both indoor and outdoor use.

This change was made to accommodate the UL 325 Section 13 Power-Supply Connections standard, which says:

13.7.3 The flexible cord shall be Type SJTW or heavier duty cord...

These cables will also be 10ft in length in order to accommodate the UL 325 standard below:

13.3.4 The length of the flexible cord shall not be less than 0.305 m (1 ft) nor more than 3.05 m (10 ft).

Both of these changes were made in order to improve our products and make life easier for customers and installers. These new cables maintain consistency across our product line, creating standardization for both interior and exterior uses.

This cable will allow for the safe use and installation of our motors for all interior and exterior applications, by meeting the standards and allowing installations to pass local inspections with ease.

Perhaps most importantly, these cables rated for both interior and exterior applications will allow for a UL listable solution. With UL listing becoming a more important part of consumer confidence, Somfy’s new standardized cables allow for an easier path to UL certification.
